hoots

Initially it started when a class of young Navy officers first went to sea and the Executive Officer (2IC) used to say "What a hoot" whenever he though that something was fantastic. The phrase was initially adapted by us to "Hoots for that!" or "That gets hoots!". Eventually we resorted to "Hoots!" whenever anything good happened. Upon our return to the Australian Defence Force Academy, the term was quickly adopted by our Army and Air Force brethren before filtering out to the rest of the Defence Force: "Hey Knocker, the Boss said we can go home early today." "HOOTS!"
