Macquarie Dictionary Online gives access to the complete Macquarie Dictionary Seventh Edition (published in 2017) with twice-annual updates of new words, along with its companion reference the Macquarie Thesaurus. Our online service offers fast and easy access to over 160,000 Australian words and definitions, encyclopedic entries, audio pronunciations for over 120,000 entries, etymologies, usage notes and more. The Macquarie Thesaurus has over 200,000 synonyms. This is the most comprehensive version of the Dictionary and Thesaurus available.

We offer 12-month subscriptions to both the Dictionary and Thesaurus, and the Dictionary only. Universities can access the regular Dictionary and Thesaurus, designed for students and adults 15 years and above. Schools can choose between the regular Dictionary and Thesaurus or the Student Dictionary and Thesaurus.

  • Access options ranging from IP access to a Shared Login

  • Tips and promotional material to assist in raising awareness of the subscription found on our resources page

  • Independent management of the subscription available through My Account, where contact details, billing information and purchase order details are managed online with ease

  • Support available Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm (AEST), excluding Australian public holidays


Subscription rates apply according to the size of the school or university. We are also able to set up school/university-wide trials.
