Word of the Year 2015 COMING SOON

Dec 10, 2015

This year we're shaking things up! In previous years the People's Choice and the Committee's Choice winning words have been announced at the same time. But this time the Committee will announce their choice and then we'll open up the vote to the public. You can then tell us whether you agree or disagree with the Committee's Choice and what YOU think the Word of the Year 2015 should be.

Last year the Committee chose mansplain but the people chose share plate. What will this year's winners be?

The Committee members this year are:

Stephen Garton, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney.
Anne Bell, Director of University Libraries at the University of Sydney.
Nick Enfield, Professor of Linguistics and Chair of Department at the University of Sydney.
Mark Di Stefano, political editor for BuzzFeed News.
Joe Hildebrand, opinion editor and columnist, The Daily Telegraph; co-host Studio 10.
Susan Butler, The Editor of the Macquarie Dictionary.

Stay tuned for more Word of the Year news coming in January 2016. In the meantime, have a look at words from previous years and keep an eye out for the #macqwoty hashtag.

Update 12/01/2016: Michael Spence is no longer able to attend the committee meeting. Nick Enfield will now be joining.
